What in the fresh Hell was THIS mess?
BAD. Practise you hear me? Just BAD! I am a blackness female who tried VERY hard to similar this show, simply my GOD...it was fifty-fifty too much for me.
1 - WAY too many 'black issues' all in the first episode. The references to injustice were too many to count. I applaud a show that does delve into societal issues, but THIS was just nonstop...
2 - The acting was borderline community playhouse level. I take that back, THEY probably act better than this!
three - I really liked the premise of the show though and enjoyed it correct upwardly to the function where Black Lightening put on that tacky donkey costume. Once he got all dolled upwards and went to 'save the 24-hour interval'...the show LOST me. OMG! He was slow as Hell, the fight scenes are terribly choreographed, and over again, the costume was NOT cool at all.
The whole prove was just extra! I made it through the airplane pilot episode and...that was information technology. I quit. Wasn't interested anymore. CW - delight practise better than this campy mess.

Tried to similar it. Struggled. Failed.
I'm black, and of an age where I was hugely into superhero and comic volume culture from dorsum in the solar day. And at present seeing these stories brought to the screen, makes me more happy than you lot tin know. With the loftier production values of Black Panther, and Luke Cage before it (I preferred Luke Cage actually), I was hoping for more of the aforementioned with Blackness Lightning. Instead, I tried to exist loyal considering at least I am represented as a blackness person on screen. But I didn't like the characters. Some were just jarring. The acting oft seemed wooden.
It aims for grittiness, merely it doesn't come across equally gritty. It comes beyond equally some very disinterested actors earning a quick buck, in something that they don't truly believe in.

Simply keeps getting better
EDIT: RARE that a serial takes feedback and fixes everything that'southward wrong, but Black Lightening did that. I truly love this show now and hope it keeps going
Edit #ii: spoke besides soon. One time once more the writers lost their way. I honestly feel this show had major potential to deliver on its... potential, non just every bit a beacon for social and racial justice, merely as well equally a truly loftier quality superhero show. The actors did their absolute all-time with what they were given, and some shone brightly despite the writing, but sadly the formula for all these DC shows (Cheese + camp + cringe) remains a work in progress.
Original: Good premise and potential, and some good interim and special effects. Conversely, the massive cheese factor in the writing combined with some equally bad acting, make it impossible to really become involved in the show.

Easily dismissable
Bad acting, bad stories, bad everything. I watched the unabridged first season hoping things would get better, but they didn't. Trying to play off the success of Marvel's Luke Cage, black lightning falls brusque at every turn. It wants to be a drama, it wants to be action, it wants to exist a super hero show, merely it isn't any of that. It's just loud dissonance throwing every blackness social upshot at you possible. I am a black man and I felt this was just too much all at once. How it has lasted 3 seasons baffles me. Maybe the cw needs to take a "black" bear witness since every other prove barely has us on it, just this shouldn't be what they get with.
You can tell how bad they fifty-fifty think this evidence is because they didn't include him in their week long crossover consequence until his 3rd flavor (tho he didn't get an entire episode for his show) yet batwoman did in her first season. Just maxim.

Anything more than one star is ridiculous
This show is horrible plain and simple. U don't believe me or recall I'thousand a hater so watch it for urself, I'm only trying to save you from wasting your time which I wish I would accept had a proper warning about from when this trash came out, just that's the gamble I accept when u watch information technology on the showtime day it comes out. Anyone who reads this at present has the foresight, use it!!

Torturing in all aspects
This was a headache. Bad casting. It looked like a first semester film school student was trying hard to make a foundation pic. Horrible acting. Enough said. There isn't any writing involved. It's simply a pain. Never over again.

Black Dynamite without the irony
Genuinely so bad that I can't cease watching it. All the cliches of blacksploitation era productions similar Shaft that were satirised in Black Dynamite are back hither as if it's something novel. It's actually shamefully addictive and has an evil albino villain who belongs in an Austin Powers movie. Watch it- it's then terrible you won't be able to look away!

How can this serial have 6.4???
Bad acting, weird fighting scenes, the primary caracter is a well known principal at a high school and all he wear is a litte mask and so nobody recognize him. There are so many good series out there, dont waste time on this crap.

Lost interest in this evidence very quickly
After the lead was pulled over with his daughters by the cops, I lost interest in this show. Once they tried to go down that road, I knew where this evidence was going. I'chiliad a minority myself and as long as yous behave like a reasonable person, you accept zero to fear from American cops. But of course, that'southward what the media never tells you. I had no interest in watching this because it became clear what blazon of person they were marketing this testify towards, and I wanted no function of it.

Brand's Luke Cage wait like the Dark Knight

If you've seen whatever of the DC comics and liked them, then y'all'll detest this. Yes, Black Lightning sets a new low for the CW'southward uninspired Comic book collection. Jefferson Pierce is a primary at a local loftier school and he tries to keep his students safe(really? how are kids in a high schoolhouse in any danger). Those kids besides include his daughters; Anissa and Jennifer. The latter is a instructor at the school.(Seriously, how quondam is this guy?) and the former is a pop rebellious teenager. There begetter hasn't been Black Lightning in a decade because of a promise he made to his estranged wife. Just when the pilot calls for it... I mean when a gang chosen the 100 rise to threaten the city, Jefferson must rise to the occasion. Watch anything else, watch Supergirl, non even kidding, it's better.

Too confrontational
I was excited to come across this show and really disappointed once I did. Information technology has a very heavy feeling to it... anybody is confrontational and aroused... well-nigh everyone had a fleck on their shoulder. I tried iv episodes only I couldn't practice it anymore.

Started mediocre and went downhill
The first season showed some hope, despite weak acting from Cress Williams in the lead and the execrable James (who hires this guy?) Remar as Peter Gambi.
Merely then it descended into hackneyed family disharmonize and repetitious tropes about "responsibility". And the activity sequences, such as they were, got worse and worse.

Surprisingly well washed
It looks nearly of the negative reviews here are all politically motivated. I wish people who claim others are snowflakes or oversensitive would end being offended by everything to the point that it dominants their stance on everything. This is a slick, well washed, unique take on the superhero genre.It deals with modern day issues, speaks in a contemporary linguistic communication, and shows evil from a perspective very rarely attended to in superhero story telling. Information technology manages both camp and realism. Look, the earth is changing, trying to silence or mitigate information technology thru baseless negativity will not change reality. Reality is this is a skilful show.

It's bad. Very bad.

Firstly I'd like to question what the critics over at another review site were smoking to requite this 100%.
The acting is very poor. The daughters and his ex married woman in particular are overacting then much that it's cringe worthy. I know it's only 1 episode in but the characters take no depth or personality at all so far (including Mr Black Lightning himself). James Remar, who is commonly a fantastic player, even looked bad in this. Maybe it'due south the direction or mayhap it's the writing.
The fighting scenes... possibly they demand to use some camera trickery to speed things up considering this dude has the worlds slowest kick that manages to make a person fly about 4 miles back. I know the law of physics do not employ to the super hero genre but come on! This was outright ridiculous!
As for the story... information technology's terrible writing. A man who'south not been black lightning for several years suddenly resurfaces and shows his true face to the villains and the police yet nobody recognises him despite him being a well known member of the community. Did the law car dash cam not take hold of his confront or am I expecting likewise much realism from a evidence?
Two stars every bit I ended up playing games on my phone half manner through and stopped paying attention.

Finding this and then hard to scout
Love near of the CW universe, only this is a hard pill to swallow. The interim is atrocious, the premise seems off, the people aren't even likable .I'm hoping it'southward just a bad beginning and might improve. I could say more, only I think other reviews accept said it all.

Only watched considering COVID 19
Passed this evidence because it looked cheesy. But subsequently running out of shows to watch during COVID 19, I stomached this.
Reasons I passed this show for years: 1: cheesy costume, fight scenes , dialogue, plot ii. Unlike well-nigh shows trying to parallel fiction to real life to teach a lesson or highlight ongoing problems via an artful or unique fashion, this show is up in your face up in an angry way at every minute. Other great shows design key moments with bear on that touch your heart. This evidence just slams you lot with acrimony. Every bit a side note that was positive in this regard. Realizing that the entire script reemphasizes in every scene ongoing protesters chants and news in 2020, nevertheless filmed years agone seems to brand me happy that themes that affect people are now captivating the world. While the hyper focused them in the evidence makes information technology unpleasant to sentry (equally one doesn't turn to television set, a pastime for "hey lets become angry for hours on cease), but jn existent life...I am glad the earth is taking non stop attention to this important theme. 3. But not shown in this show. 5. More evidence that curiosity owns the stage for how to properly make superheroes successful in 21st century

CW has hit the mark with Black LIGHTNING
Most new Television set series these days have the same lame formula, not this one.
Black Lightning Episode 1 gave me chills, thrills and a realism that most TV merely does non accept these days. It is current, topical, political and has all the elements of a great superhero series. I was hesitant to lookout it merely was so glad that I did.
Teenage social media and Smartphone addiction, gangs of disaffected youth in a club that doesn't care and Police that comport equally a law unto themselves, it's like existent life on the screen with zero MSM rubbish. These are the serious issues affecting non but America merely every 5 eyes Western nations today.
A fleck heavy on the family drama but all necessary to the plotline. Really excited to run into more of this nevertheless knowing The CW, this will be lucky to make it by season One, as all their practiced shows fail to practise. The flashbacks to the past are few and only announced where needed. Clever editing, good script and decent special effects. This show deserves a 9/10

What exactly am I watching?
A cast with actors of people of colour is proficient on diverseness. I am also okay with politics and religion being introduced into the narrative. However, the overall narrative and acting performance are not highly-seasoned. It doesn't become improve with each episode. Therefore, Black Lightning is one of the worst superhero testify on Television. Even Batwoman is ameliorate.

All around good evidence truthful to basic CW story writing, just honestly without a lot of cringey stuff they normally exercise.
So apparently someone complained nigh white peoples being bad guys. Totally not truthful, Gammby of grade excellent exception, I have had zip problem with it as white viewer. There is of course govt conspiracy confronting the townsfolk, but anyone who got stuck on that never watched a CW evidence - everyone a conspiracy experiment victim, lol.
Now onto the practiced stuff. Jefferson Pierce is a great stand upward loftier powered super hero without being a 'Mary Sue' if y'all will. The rest of cast is easily the nigh conceivable 'super powered' family unit scenario on screen yet maybe. Their exchanges feel very genuine.
The daughters are a great highlight of the show. One super powered and struggling with it, the other embracing it and going to town. Both feel like very real reactions and are played like real people.
Tiny Spoiler: There is a scene in latest episode where Anissa gets pulled over past a local sheriff and sees super fast humans start circling auto. Does she go out north look around? Does she cooperate with sheriff in obviously bad situation? No! She literally says 'Hell no!' and starts driving downwardly the road. That's real, these piddling things brand the show for me, and I enjoy it each week.

Could be good only...
I liked the bear witness for the offset flavor and part of the second,merely the writers are not so skillful,people who go killed are constantly brought back to life(typical CW nonsense) and the characters constantly brand bad decisions,stupid even. The youngest girl is the guiltiest of this annoying habit and she keeps getting worse.

A waste of time
This is just bad, I felt like I was watching a soap opera instead of a superhero show. The acting was bad. Superhero stuff felt like it was fabricated in a hurry. I really wanted to like this testify, and I consider myself to kinda watch everything with superhero in information technology. But this one... I made it through 4 episode but that's information technology..
